A new global design standard (ISO-80369) for tubing connectors will improve patient safety by reducing the incidence of medical device tubing misconnections. The new standards require small bore connectors to be made out of semi-rigid and rigid materials, making incorrect interconnections less likely.
Enteral devices are the first of all the clinical applications to undergo this change (ISO 80369-3). The new ENFit connector provides a simple way to reduce the risk of enteral tube feeding misconnections and improve patient safety.
The timeline for implementation is as follows (http://www.stayconnected.org/#meet)
